Taiwan Economic and Trade Delegation Visited Germany, Sweden, and Finland from September 19 to October 1, 2023

CIECA organized the “Taiwan Economic and Trade Delegation to Germany, Sweden, and Finland,” which was scheduled to visit the three countries from September 19 to October 1, 2023. Mr. Chu Chih-Yaung, Chairman of Fair Friend Group; Mr. Kuo Shui-Yi, Chairman of Chunghua Telecom Co., Ltd.; and Mr. Cho Cheng Hong, President of Institute for Information Industry respectively served as the head of the delegation to each of the three countries. During the visit, the delegation held the Joint Business Councils Meetings focusing on “Resilience of Supply Chain: Semiconductor,” “Green, Digital Transition,” “ICT (5G/6G),” and “Smart Healthcare.” On September 22, the 21st Germany-Taiwan Joint Business Council Meeting held at Berlin, Germany. The Meeting focused on the topic of “Resilience of Supply Chain: Semiconductor” and invited bilateral businesses and industry experts for discussions. The said meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Jimmy Chu, Vice Chairman of CIECA (Chairman of Fair Friend Group) and Mr. Dirk Sänger, Co-Chairman of Taiwan-Germany Joint Business Council and Managing Partner of C. Melchers GmbH & Co.. Nearly 90 participants from both sides attended this event. The Meeting especially invited Mr. Chen Chern-Chyi, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, R.O.C. and Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and Member of the German Bundestag to deliver remarks respectively. In addition, Mr. Reinhard BÜTIKOFER, Member of European Parliament and Group of the Greens, European Free Alliance attended the meeting. Starting with experts’ discussion, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Volker Treier, Chief Executive of Foreign Trade and Member of the Executive Board, German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). The panelists were Mr. Johnson Y.H. Chiang, Industrialization Director, Chip Technology & Design Division, EOSL/ITRI and Dr. Wolfgang Weber, CEO, ZVEI German Electro and Digital Industry Association. The two parties discussed the complementarity of the Taiwan-Germany semiconductor industry and exchanged views on how to continue expanding the future cooperation in microelectronics industry. The second panel discussion was co-chaired by Mr. Jun Gu, VP of Corporate Strategy & Global BD, Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, PSMC and Mr. Axel Limberg, Executive Director and Chief Delegate, German Trade Office, Taipei. Mr. Vincent Liu, CEO, LCY Chemical Corp.; Ms. Fang Li Ju, Vice President, Sumika Technology; and Mr. Johnson Y.H. Chiang, Industrialization Director, Chip Technology & Design Division, EOSL/ITRI were invited to be the panelists from Taiwan side. The German side invited Dr. Cornelia Ballwießer, CFO, SÜSS MicroTec SE and Mr. Richard Hagenfeldt, Managing Director, Linde Electronics as panelists. The panalists exchanged views on Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the supply chain and building a resilient supply chain under European semiconductor industry environment. On September 26, CIECA and Business Sweden held the 39th Sweden-Taiwan Joint Business Council Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden. The 39th Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Kuo Shui-Yi, Chairman, Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and Mr. Mikael Bäck, Vice President & Corporate Officer, Technology & Strategy Unit of Ericsson, focusing on Green & Digital Transition and Innovative Healthcare. Mr. Chen Chern-Chyi, ROC Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs; Mr. Jan Larsson, CEO, Swedish Trade and Invest Council; and Mr. Håkan Jevrell, State Secretary to Minister for Foreign Trade, Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs were invited to deliver remarks respectively. In addition, VIP guests included Dr. Klement Ruey-Sheng Gu, Representative, Taipei Mission in Sweden and Mr. Anders Christian Wollter, Representative, The Swedish Trade & Invest Council. A total of 65 participants from both sides attended this event. During the meeting, Mr. Justin Huang, President of Taiwan Textile Federation and Mr. Jan Stala, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Peak 63 Outdoor Lab signed the MOU on Cooperation in Sustainable Textile Industry. The last stop of the delegation’s visit was Finland. CIECA and Business Finland co-held “the 10th Taiwan-Finland Business Forum” on September 29 in Helsinki, Finland. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on “ICT” and “Smart Healthcare.” The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Cho Cheng-Hong, President, Institute for Information Industry (III) and Mr. Risto Vuohelainen, Executive Director, Global Growth Service Area, Business Fin-land. Ms. Janet Chang, Representative, Taipei Representative Office in Finland and Mr. Juha Niemi, Deputy Director General, Department for the Americas and Asia, Finnish MFA were invited to deliver remarks respectively. This meeting had a strong lineup of speakers, and CIECA invited experts from Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., ASUSTeK Computer Inc., Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and Taichung Veterans General Hospital to share experience and expertise with Finland’s counterparts. The Meeting was followed by a luncheon, about 50 participants present at this event. The atmosphere was warm and harmonious.

Mr. Kuo Shui-Yi, Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and Mr. Mikael Bäck, Vice President & Corporate Officer of Technology & Strategy Unit of Ericsson signed the Joint Statement at the 39th Sweden-Taiwan Joint Business Council Meeting.
