“The 2023 Joint Conference of the Taiwan-New Zealand & New Zealand-Taiwan Business Councils” Held on September 14, 2023

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu on Economic Cooperation (ANZTEC), Chairman Charles Finny led a New Zealand delegation to visit Taiwan from September 12 to 16. He co-chaired with Mr. Tung Kuo-Yu, Advisor of CIECA “the 2023 Joint Conference of the Taiwan-New Zealand & New Zealand-Taiwan Business Councils” on September 14, 2023. Mr. Chen Chern-Chyi, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs; Ms. Joanne Ou, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, New Zealand; and Mr. Mark Pearson, Director of New Zealand Commerce & Industry Office, Taipei were invited to deliver remarks respectively in the Joint Conference. “The Joint Conference of the Taiwan-New Zealand & New Zealand-Taiwan Business Councils” has been an important platform for deepening non-governmental economic cooperation between Taiwan and New Zealand for decades. There were approximately 48 members from the New Zealand Delegation, including representatives from the Import and Export Association, the industries from food, vegetable, fruit, olive oil, biological forestry, children's products, legal consulting business, and services. In addition, officials from New Zealand government, Business and Economic Research Limited (BERL), Te Puni Kokiri (TPK) for Maori affairs, and New Zealand Young Leaders also attended the meeting. The meeting focused on multiple topics, including “ESG in Food and Beverage Industry,” “Energy Sector (Geothermal),” “Indigenous Economies,” “Cooperation in the Green Finance Sector,” and “Manufacturing Exports.” Experts from the enterprises of the two countries communicated and discussed commercial opportunities and future directions of cooperation. This event attracted more than 130 participants from Taiwan and New Zealand, creating opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation.
