The Joint Conference of ROC-Korea and Korea-Taiwan Business Councils Promotes Economic and Trade Exchanges and Cooperation Between the Two Countries

The 47th Joint Conference of ROC-Korea and Korea-Taiwan Business Councils” co-hosted by CIECA and the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) was successfully held at Shangri-La Far Eastern in Taipei on the morning of June 1, 2023. The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Jimmy Chu, Chairman, ROC-Korea Business Council, CIECA and Dr. Joon Kim, Chairman of Korea-Taiwan Business Council, FKI. During the conference, Mr. Liang Kuang-Chung, Representative of Taipei Mission in Korea; Mr. Lee Eun-Ho, Representative of Korean Mission in Taipei; and Dr. Lee Guann-Jyh, Deputy Director General of Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA were invited to deliver remarks respectively. They were expressing the support from the governments of the two countries for the non-governmental economic cooperation between Taiwan and Korea. More than 135 guests were present at the conference from Taiwan and Korea, including representatives from enterprises, governments, and academia. Sixteen Korean students from JeJu National University, Ajou University, and Konkuk University also participated in the conference. There are four topics discussed in the plenary session. The papers of the first topic of “Economic trends and outlook of Korea and Taiwan” were presented by Dr. Shu-Fei Yang, Associate Research Fellow/Deputy Director of the Regional Development Study Center, Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research and Ms. Kui Ock Kim, Director of Investment Attraction Division, Busan Metropolitan City. The papers of the second topic of “Manufacturing & Service Cooperation” were presented by Mr. Miro Lin, CEO, Machine Tool Business Group (Taichung), of the Fair Friend Group, Dr. Dae-Geun Lim, Chairman, Korean Academic Association of Global Cultural Contents, and Mr. Dae-Hyun Kim, CEO of the Korean Toss Lab, Inc. The papers of the third topic of “Green Energy & Strategic Materials Cooperation” were presented by Dr. Lin Jo-Chen, CEO, Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership; Mr. Sam Hwang, Executive Vice President, SK Oceanplant; and Mr. Soo-Hong Chae, Director, Trade and Security Research Center, Korean Security Agency of Trade and Industry (KOSTI). The papers of the forth topic of “Information and Technology Cooperation” were presented by Mr. Terry Tsao, SEMI’s Global Chief Marketing Officer and President of Taiwan region and Dr. Eun-kyo Cho, Research Fellow, Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade (KIET). The Korean delegation to attend “The 47th Joint Conference of ROC-Korea and Korea-Taiwan Business Councils” was the first delegation led by FKI coming to Taiwan after the pandemic of Covid 19. The conference provided an important communication platform for the governments and business representatives of Taiwan and Korea to acquire in-depth understanding of the two countries’ Economic trends, and the prospects for industrial cooperation and development. The participants also conducted discussions on related topics. Through this conference, enterprises and institutions from the two countries have established a closer cooperative relationship, promoted technical ex-changes and resources sharing, and achieved win-win results.
