The 9th Taiwan-Finland Business Forum Held on December 14, 2022

CIECA and the Business Finland jointly hosted “The 9th Tai-wan-Finland Business Forum” on December 14, 2022 (Wednesday) at 9:30 am at the Taipei International Convention Center. Mr. Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State of the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, led a delegation of businessmen visiting Taiwan to participate in the meeting. Dr. Cho Cheng-Hong, Chairman of Taiwan-Finland Economic Cooperation Committee, CIECA and President of Institute for Information Industry co-chaired the meeting with Mr. Lauri Raunio, Representative of Finland Trade Center. Ms. Cynthia Kiang, Director General of Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Under-Secretary of State Petri Peltonen of the Finnish Minis-try of Economy and Employment were invited to deliver opening speeches at the conference. The conference focused on topics such as “Sustainable Energy” and “Smart Healthcare.” Experts of important companies from Taiwan and Finland were invited to give keynote speeches and share experiences. As for the theme of “Sustainable Energy,” experts from Taiwan Power Company and Business Finland gave speeches on the development of the energy industry in each of the two countries. They depicted the current energy-related applications and future development trends. Energy-related companies from Taiwan and Finland were present at the conference, including Tatung Co., Tron Energy Technology Corporation, Ubiik (Taiwan side), as well as Wärtsilä Corporation (Wärtsilä), Danfoss Drives / Vacon Oy (Danfoss), and BMH Technology (Hungary side.) They had discussion on the topics of optimizing power systems, Power-to-X energy con-version, battery energy storage systems, innovative energy-saving solutions, renewable energy equipment, low-carbon power systems, value-added benefits of waste recycling, and photovoltaic systems in the hope that through cooperation the safer, more reliable, and more flexible green energy productivity could be realized. As for the theme “Smart Healthcare,” Experts from Taiwan's Digital Transformation Research Institute at Institute for Information Industry and from Finland's National Business Promotion Agency (Invest in Finland, Business Finland) delivered respectively a keynote speech on the two countries’ current healthcare situation and future prospect. Mr. Lai Chi-Chun, a Taiwan-ese medical professional, the Superintendent of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Keelung shared Chang Gung's experience in the field of Smart Healthcare development. Finnish companies shared their expertise on topics such as precision medicine, integrated application of medical and biological databases (biobank), and regional medical development by BC Platforms and Business Tampere. Both Taiwan and Finland have their own forte in healthcare industry. A combination of technology and health industry should create value-added benefits for them. The number of participants in that meeting exceeded 100; the Taiwan-Finland trade was expected booming, and the interactions be-tween companies of the two sides were very lively during the conference and the ensued luncheon.
