Mr. Richard C.L. Chen, the newly appointed Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chennai, India, visited CIECA to meet with Secretary General Frank Wu and exchange views on how to promote Taiwan-India economic cooperation at 11 a.m. on February 21, 2023. Director General Richard C.L. Chen had work experiences in many countries in the past, including the United States, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Fiji, etc. In his meeting with Secretary General Frank Wu, Director General Chen mentioned that about 116 Taiwan companies are investing in India. About 80% of Taiwan investments are concentrated in the south of India. The Indian government has focused on market expansion and attracted foreign companies to invest in India. More importantly India is one of the key countries for Taiwan's new south-bound policy; many large Taiwanese companies have already invested in India. The Century Development Corporation has cooperated with Hsinchu Science Park Bureau to set up the Science and Technology Innovation International Park in Bangalore, Karnataka Province, India. The Century Development Corporation holds shares for TECO Group, hoping to build an industrial cluster, Richard C. L. Chen said. CIECA responded that it has cooperated with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) to hold the Taiwan-India Joint Business Councils Meeting for nineteen times so far and hoped FICCI could organize a business delegation to visit Taiwan for holding the 20th Taiwan-India Joint Business Councils Meeting during the Computex or the Electronics Fair to be held in this October.
