On March 21, 2025, Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu of CIECA, along with industry representatives and CIECA colleagues, met with a delegation led by Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy. The meeting focused on the comprehension of Alaska's key industries, including oil and LNG, clean energy, seafood, and tourism.
Governor Dunleavy highlighted Alaska’s potential as Taiwan’s most reliable energy partner, noting its abundant oil reserve, natural gas, and clean energy such as geothermal resources. He stressed that “trans-porting energy resources from Alaska to Taiwan does not require a passage through high-risk zones like the Panama Canal or the Middle East; on the contrary, it reduces supply chain risks and shipping time in enhancing Taiwan’s energy security.” He also introduced the current development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Alaska, which drew attention of President Michael Chang of CPC, Taiwan.
Regarding seafood trade, Jay Yen, CEO of Yen & Brothers Enterprise, expressed interest in importing more of Alaska wild salmon and raised his concerns about regulatory barriers in Taiwan related to obtaining salmon’s health certification. He exchanged contact information with governor’s team to facilitate further discussions.
In the tourism sector, Erick Chang, CTO of Lion Travel Group introduced Taiwan’s growing interest in skiing and digital travel experiences. Governor Dunleavy responded with great enthusiasm, describing Alaska’s ski destinations and offering possible solutions to improve flight connectivity for Taiwanese travelers.
