Mr. Mike Hung, Vice Chairman of CIECA Visited with Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to the Republic of China and the Acting Representative of ROC (Taiwan) Office of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)

On June 6, Mr. Mike Hung, Vice Chairman of CIECA, led colleagues from the Latin American and African Department visited with H.E. Ambassador Oscar Adofo Padilla Lam of the Republic of Guatemala to the Republic of China and Ms. Daniela Ortiz Figueroa, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala to the ROC, to discuss the CIECA’s delegation to visit Guatemala this year. H.E. Ambassador Oscar Adofo Padilla Lam emphasized that “all Taiwanese industries are very welcome to invest and set up factories in Guatemala, and Guatemala has established a tariff-free zone, a great benefit for the manufacturers who want to invest there.” Vice Chairman Hung said that CIECA would organize a delegation to visit Guatemala again in the hope of promoting cooperation between the two countries and creating more frequent political and economic interactions between the two countries. On June 20, Vice Chairman Hung of CIECA also visited with Mr. Steven Chen-Yuan Wong, Acting Representative of the ROC (Taiwan) Office of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), for gaining an in-depth understanding of Taiwan’s financing plans to make investment in Central America and discussing potential companies to join CIECA’s delegation to visit Guatemala and Belize. Vice Chairman Hung asked Acting Representative Wong about financing Taiwanese small and medium sized enterprises to invest in Central America. Mr. Wong responded that “CABEI provides private sectors with overseas cross-border investment plans to promote overseas investment. To assist Taiwanese companies to make investment, his office could be of coordination with the CABEI headquarters for gaining appropriate interest rates and loan amounts. Acting Representative Wong also said that most of the colleagues of CABEI were working in Guatemala, and that “he welcomes the delegation to visit his office in Guatemala and will brief a complete financing plan to Taiwanese companies.”
