On May 27, 2026, CIECA Chairman Mr. Joseph Lyu welcomed Mr. Martin Kent, HM Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, and Mr. Ron Yip, Deputy Director of the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Ms. Ruth Bradley-Jones, Representative of the British Office, Taipei, along with other British senior officials, attended the meeting.
The event brought together senior representatives from a number of Taiwan’s leading industries, including Walsin Lihwa, Winbro, Lien Hwa, Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS), Silicon Touch, Tex-Ray, Everlight Chemical, Intumit, Hon Hai (Foxconn), CastleNet, and Taoyuan International Airport Corporation. Participants exchanged views on Taiwan–UK industrial cooperation and future economic and trade development.
The business dialogue commenced with Chairman Lyu’s opening remarks. During the meeting, Mr. Ron Yip provided an overview of the Investment Arrangement Pillar under the Taiwan–UK Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP), highlighting opportunities for deeper bilateral investment cooperation. Mr. Martin Kent then presented the UK’s current industrial strategy, covering key sectors such as ICT, energy, and talent development. The discussions were productive and engaging, with participants exchanging perspectives on future collaboration and identifying areas of mutual interest.
Looking ahead, CIECA is planning a trade mission to the United Kingdom in October 2026 in conjunction with the official Taiwan–UK Economic Dialogue. The delegation is expected to participate in a business roundtable forum with the Confederation of British Industry (CBI). The insights gathered from the forum will constitute an important foundation for the upcoming missions and contribute to further strengthening Taiwan–UK economic and trade relations.
