CIECA Joined Europe Day Business Reception

On May 6, 2026, the Deputy Director, European Department Ms. Deyun Li, representing CIECA Secretary General Frank Wu attended the Europe Day Business Reception organized by the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT) at Huashan 1914 Creative Park. The event featured remarks by Mr. Lutz Güllner, Head of the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO), Taipei; Ms. Cynthia Kiang, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs of Taiwan; and Dr. José Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission. Representatives from European countries to Taiwan were also invited to join a ceremonial toast and group photo to celebrate Europe Day. Deputy Minister Kiang noted that Taiwan–Europe relations have evolved from an economic partnership into a strategic partnership founded on shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law. She emphasized that both sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in supply chain resilience, green energy, semiconductors, and emerging technologies. “Taiwan has been expanding its investment presence in Europe, particularly in markets such as the Czech Republic and Poland in hope of working together with European partners to address global challenges,” Kiang said. Mr. Güllner highlighted the close and reliable relationship between the European Union and Taiwan, underscoring the EU’s resilience in responding to crises and advancing institutional integration. He noted that Taiwan–EU trade reached a record high in the first quarter of this year, reaffirming the EU’s position as one of Taiwan’s most important investment partners. Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in further cooperation in renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and the automotive industry. Former European Commission President Dr. José Manuel Barroso expressed his delight in celebrating Europe Day in Taiwan. “peace and stability remain at the core of the European project and the EU has demonstrated remarkable resilience through challenges such as the global financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russia–Ukraine war,” Barroso emphasized. He also recognized Taiwan’s strengths in technology and innovation and expressed optimism regarding the broad prospects for deeper Taiwan–Europe economic and industrial cooperation. The reception brought together approximately 250 distinguished guests from government, business, and diplomatic circles across Taiwan and Europe. During the networking session, participants exchanged views on Taiwan–Europe economic cooperation, supply chain resilience, investment opportunities, and sustainable development. The event further strengthened industrial and commercial connections between Taiwan and Europe, demonstrating the solid foundation and shared commitment to expanding bilateral partnership and collaboration.
