CIECA Chairman Joseph Lyu was invited to attend the “Taiwan–Illinois Trade and Technology Forum” hosted by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce on April 27, 2026. During the forum, Chairman Lyu and President of Illinois Chamber of Commerce Jimmy Clayton formally signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing ceremony was witnessed by distinguished guests from both Taiwan and the United States, including Yen-Feng Lei, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, Kristin Richards, Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and Christy George, President of Illinois Economic Development Cooperation. Under the MOU, CIECA and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce will promote a range of cooperative initiatives on a reciprocal basis. These include facilitating business exchanges and matchmaking opportunities, sharing market intelligence and investment information, supporting trade exhibitions and business delegations, advancing industrial collaboration and talent development, and encouraging enterprises from both sides to participate in economic and trade promotion activities to enhance market visibility and deepen cooperation. This MOU marks the first ever institutionalized state-level partnership that CIECA has established with the U.S. government, symbolizing the extension of Taiwan–U.S. economic cooperation into a state-level dimension. The state of Illinois, a key economic hub in the American Midwest, boasts a strong manufacturing base and robust innovation capabilities. Its complementary strengths with Taiwan in high-tech industries and supply chains will help Taiwanese enterprises strengthen their presence in American Midwest market and foster collaboration in emerging technologies and critical industries. In his remarks at the forum, Chairman Lyu stated that CIECA is committed to serving as a “Team of Teams” to bridge government and business, while connecting global industry partners. The Association’s global networking focuses on key sectors such as investment, technology, energy, healthcare, and cybersecurity. “Taiwan is an important economic and security partner of the United States and fully supports the revitalization of U.S. manufacturing and its restructuring of supply chains. Moving forward, CIECA will continue to deepen Taiwan–U.S. economic partnership and expand bilateral investment and industrial cooperation through various exchange platforms,” Chairman Lyu stressed.
