U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona was invited to visit Taiwan, his first visit as a U.S. Senator, on January 22 to 24, 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-Lung hosted a banquet on January 23 to welcome Senator Gallego. CIECA Chairman Joseph Lyu was invited and exchanged views with the Senator on Taiwan-US economic and trade cooperation and the regional security issues.
Senator Gallego highly values Taiwan-U.S. security relations, actively supports deepening bilateral economic and trade cooperation, strongly promotes solutions to the double taxation issue, and has unrelentingly been facilitating direct flights between Taipei and Phoenix, Arizona. During his stay, Senator Gallego met with President Lai Ching-Te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim. Our government sincerely welcomes and thanks the U.S. Congress for its long-standing support of Taiwan through tangible measures.
