Chairman Joseph Lyu Moderated a Taiwan-Japan Business Roundtable Discussion on Economic Resilience

On January 14, 2026, the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) hosted the Taiwan-Japan Business Roundtable on Economic Resilience at Regent Hotel. The event brought together distinguished guests, including Amb. François Wu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Amb. Nathan Sales, former U.S. Under Secretary of State; Chief Representative Kazuyuki Katayama of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taipei Office; and Vincent Chao, Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Council. Representatives of industry associations, research institutes, and enterprises from Taiwan, the U.S., and Japan also participated in the vibrant exchange. CIPE, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a core institute of National Endowment for Democracy (NED), is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of private enterprises, promoting market-oriented reforms, and establishing sound economic institutions to support democracy. During the forum, CIECA Chairman Joseph Lyu was invited to moderate Panel Discussion III titled “Strengthening Economic Resilience by Building Connected and Trusted Supply Chains.” Chairman Lyu led a dynamic discussion on the outlook for Taiwan's future semiconductor supply chain resilience, potential Taiwan-Japan cooperation beyond semiconductors, and strategies for economic security. The session featured an insightful exchange of views with three esteemed panelists: Mr. Stephen Su, Senior VP of ITRI; Mr. David Parker, Vice Chair of the Economic Security Committee at American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ); Mr. Naoaki Mashita, Chairman and Group CEO (Founder) of V-cube, and former Vice Chairman of Japan Association of Corporate Executives. To conclude the session, Chairman Lyu invited the experts to recommend specific projects, reforms, and collaborations that could significantly reinforce economic resilience among Taiwan, the U.S., and Japan over the next two years.
