To deepen bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Japan, Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu led a delegation of 20 representatives from industry and academia to Tokyo from December 1 to 5, 2025, signifying CIECA's first formal visit to Japan. The itinerary focused on finance, startups, semiconductors, and AI applications, with the aim of exploring opportunities for technological innovation and resilient supply chain collaboration in the AI era in an attempt to forge a forward-looking strategic partnership between Japan and Taiwan.
Led by Chairman Lyu, the delegation conducted several meetings, including a courtesy call on Ambassador I-Yang Lee at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan; a meeting with Mr. Akira Amari, Honorary Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's Diet Members Caucus for Promotion of Semiconductor Strategy to discuss how Taiwan and Japan collaborate to build a more resilient semiconductor supply chain and strengthen economic and trade ties; and a visit to the Japan-ROC Diet Members' Consultative Council, a longstanding supporter of Taiwan, where discussions were held with Chairman Keiji Furuya for inducing Japan's support for Taiwan's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and participation in international organizations such as the WHO.
In addition to official dialogues, the following visits were arranged for the CIECA delegation:
On December 2, the delegation visited Hitachi, Ltd., where the company presented its digital transformation solutions for the financial sector as well as shared their latest technologies and trends in Japanese banking system.
On the morning of December 3, they visited Professor Atsuo Takanishi's laboratory at the Center for Advanced Biomedical Sciences, TWIns, Waseda University, to learn about humanoid robotics research and development in Japan and observed the demonstrations of humanoid robots in playing musical instruments and simulating a conductor's movements.
On the afternoon of December 3, the delegation visited the Net Protections to know how “AFTEE,” a "Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)" fintech service, is operated and to explore potential BNPL cooperation between Taiwan and Japan.
On the morning of December 4, they visited ASUENE, a climate tech startup and solutions provider, to seek cooperation in green transition and sustainability between Taiwan and Japan.
On the afternoon of December 4, the delegation visited the Japan Management Association (JMA), an organization dedicated to promoting management innovation and cultivating talent, where the delegation exchanged views with JMA’s experts on personnel training for SMEs and talent exchange programs.
In the future, CIECA will continue to engage with Japanese industry, government, and academia to deepen substantive partnership between Taiwan and Japan.
