The 49th Taiwan-Korea Economic Cooperation Committee Meeting Focused on New Opportunities in the AI Era

The 49th Taiwan-Korea Economic Cooperation Committee Meeting was successfully held in Taipei on November 27, attracting over a hundred representatives from the industry, government, and academia of both sides. The attendees gathered to explore cooperation opportunities driven by the global economic transformation under the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting was co-chaired by Ms. Hsin-Ling Chang, Chairperson of the ROC-Korea Business Council, CIECA, and Mr. Joon Kim, Chairman of the Korea-Taiwan Business Council; FKI). The opening ceremony featured a welcome address by CIECA Chairman Joseph Lyu, followed by remarks from the Acting Representative Sang-wook Koh of the Korean Mission in Taipei and the Deputy Director General Susan Hu of the International Trade Administration, MOEA, symbolizing government support for bilateral private-sector economic collaboration. The main theme of the conference was “Industrial Cooperation and Sustainable Development in the AI Era.” The meeting had three sessions, namely (1) AI Infrastructure Cooperation; (2) AI and Green Energy Transition; (3) AI Applications in Cultural Content and Smart Retail. To foster practical cooperation, CIECA arranged for the Korean delegation making some site visits in Taiwan. On the first day, they visited with Egis Group’s AI chip and computing technology teams to observe Taiwan's R&D achievements in AI Chiplet, drone/robot AI platforms, and 3nm heterogeneous computing architecture. The next day, the delegation went to the IP Lab, first-hand experiencing 4D Views, VR immersive imaging, and AI cross-media creation at the Cultural Content Lab. The Korean delegation expressed deep appreciation for Taiwan's innovative capacity, stating that they would continue to evaluate potential technical collaboration with and investment in Taiwan. The meeting successfully underscored the importance of deepening cooperation and dialogue between the Taiwanese and Korean business communities in navigating the current global changes.
