In collaboration with the Jewish–Taiwan Cultural Association, and with co-sponsorship from the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance as well as the College of Global Banking and Finance of National Chengchi University, CIECA hosted in Taipei a book launch event for Dr. Mitchell Silk on October 28.
Dr. Silk served as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, taking charge of trade, infrastructure finance, financial regulation, and FinTech affairs. During his tenure, he undertook trade negotiations with China and implemented the airline industry rescue package during the COVID pandemic days, making him one of the most influential figures in international economic policy.
At the book launch event, Dr. Silk shared the inspiration behind his new book entitled “A Seat at the Table” as well as the insights from his professional journey. He encouraged readers to reflect on finding their own “seat” to exert influence and positive change. He also shared his experience in exercising non-traditional diplomacy, noting that meaningful exchanges “at the dining table” often build deeper trust than formal negotiations, embodying the very essence of his book’s title.
Guided by his deep Jewish faith, Mr. Silk reflected that his career has been shaped by divine providence. “Each stage of his life journey was a part of God’s greater plan that had already prepared for him to face complex challenges with faith and composure,” he explained further.
