The Opening Reception of EU Innovation Week was held on the evening of October 21 at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Hotel, Taipei. It was jointly organized by the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) in Taiwan, with the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) serving as co-executing partners.
The event aimed to foster closer cooperation and dialogue between Taiwan and the European Union in the fields of innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation. It manifested the shared vision of green transition, net-zero technologies, and industrial innovation.
The opening ceremony featured remarks by Premier Cho Jung-Tai, Minister Kung Ming-Hsin of Economic Affairs, Deputy Director General Hubert Gambs of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), and Head Lutz Güllner of EETO in Taiwan. CIECA Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu was invited to attend the event and interacted with representatives from EU and European states, underscoring the Association’s continued commitment to strengthening Taiwan-EU economic relations.
This year’s EU Innovation Week focused on industrial artificial intelligence, energy transition, UAV technology, smart cities, and intelligent transportation. The event brought together industry leaders, government officials, and academic experts from both Taiwan and Europe to explore trends in industrial innovation and policy development, aiming to promote cross-sector collaboration and technological exchange toward creating a more sustainable and smarter industrial ecosystem.
The reception gathered over 200 distinguished guests, including representatives from the EU and its member states, visiting European enterprises, Taiwan’s government agencies, business associations, and corporate executives. The atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic, with participants exchanging views on innovation cooperation, green technologies, and corporate sustainability. The event successfully set the stage for the following week of forums and exhibitions, laying a solid foundation for future Taiwan-EU cooperation.
