A Delegation from the Colombian Senate Visited CIECA

On September 25, 2025, a six-member delegation from the Colombian Senate, led by Senator José Luis PÉREZ OYUELA, former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate paid a visit to CIECA. Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu warmly received the delegation, followed by a cordial meeting hosted by Vice Chairman Mike Hung and Secretary General Frank Wu. Vice Chairman Hung extended a warm welcome, noting that Colombia used to maintain an interest office in Taiwan prior to 2002 and expressed his hope that such an office could be resumed to enhance bilateral economic exchanges. “Taiwan is a global manufacturing hub, while Colombia is a major manufacturing center in Latin America, which creates vast potential for mutual cooperation,” Vice Chairman Hung remarked. He further pointed out that Taiwan enterprises would be well-positioned to establish OEM and ODM facilities in Colombia, thereby deepening bilateral technical collaboration. Senator Pérez, who has long served as Chairman of the Colombia–Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, emphasized that he and his colleagues greatly valued this opportunity to engage with CIECA, hoping to accelerate bilateral cooperation in areas such as smart cities and food industries. Regarding the resumption of Colombia’s office in Taiwan, he pledged to proactively promote the initiative so that the two countries could engage directly without relying on offices in Tokyo or Hong Kong. He also agreed on the importance of streamlining visa issuance to facilitate business ex-changes. Senator Germán Alcides BLANCO ÁLVAREZ further added that the delegation sought to strengthen co-operation with Taiwan in high technology, renewable energy, smart agriculture, education, and artificial intelligence. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides exchanged gifts and ex-pressed their commitments to future visits and more frequent exchanges to strengthen bilateral trade relations.
