CIECA’s Deputy Secretary General Chiang Zhen-Wei, concurrently as Director General of the Department of NGO International Affairs, MOFA joined a delegation led by President Liao Tzu Tsen of Taiwan Optical Platform to visit the Kingdom of Eswatini from July 27 to August 2, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to assess the feasibility and prospects of building a Taiwan Industrial Park in Eswatini, as well as to explore other business opportunities in that country.
During the visit, the delegation called on several high-level officials, including Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini and Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, having in-depth discussion on mutually interested issues, demonstrating a shared commitment between Taiwan and Eswatini to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
On July 29, Dr. Chiang, along with ROC (Taiwan) Ambassador to Eswatini, Jeremy H. S. Liang, and President Liao, visited the proposed site of the Taiwan Science and Technology Park in Phocweni. The delegation exchanged views with Eswatini officials on industrial planning, infrastructure needs, and investment conditions. In addition, they met with Taiwanese businesses who are operating in Eswatini, to have vibrant discussions on local investment experiences and operational challenges.
On July 30, Dr. Chiang attended the “Economic and Investment Dialogue” hosted by the Eswatini government. He engaged in high-level exchange of views with Eswatini’s senior officials including Minister and Deputy Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank. The meeting featured substantive discussions on the local investment environment, investment promotion policies, and future avenues for public-private collaboration.
Later in that afternoon, the delegation visited the Construction Industry Council (CIC) to better understand the administrative procedures and regulations required for development of Eswatini’s infrastructure. This visit aimed to lay the groundwork for the future construction of the industrial park.
That evening, Dr. Chiang was granted an audience with His Majesty King Mswati III. During the meeting, he presented Taiwan’s vision and plans for building the Science and Technology Park. His Majesty expressed strong support for the project, appreciating its potential to create substantial employment opportunities and drive Eswatini’s fast-growing economy. A photo was taken following the meeting, symbolizing the deepening economic partnership between Taiwan and Eswatini.
