On March 19, 2025, Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu of CIECA, along with representatives from Taiwan’s industry and CIECA colleagues, received an American delegation led by Ed Brzytwa, Vice President of International Trade of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), USA. The discussion focused on U.S. tariff policies in the aftermath of the inauguration of President Donald Trump, particularly on supply chain risk management, rapid relocation strategies, and potential countermeasures against retaliatory tariffs. Vice President Brzytwa emphasized that “the U.S. industry’s stance does not align entirely with the President Trump’s trade policies.” He noted that “businesses are awaiting key tariff decisions set on April 2, and that CTA is actively working to influence policy outcomes in favor of free trade and provides support for U.S. companies' global trade partners.” During the meeting, Robin Liss, CEO of Suvie, shared her ongoing consideration of shifting supply chains from China to Taiwan. Sara Lin, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Taiwan at HP Inc., reaffirmed HP’s longstanding presence in Taiwan for over five decades and highlighted ongoing discussions with government agencies and local suppliers to mitigate the impact of U.S. high tariffs on Taiwan’s supply chain partners. Taiwanese industry representatives also provided insights from the perspective of local manufacturers, emphasizing strategies to promote globalized production to diversify risks and the need to understand who will ultimately control over the supply chains in face of geopolitical uncertainty.

President Rupert Hammond-Chambers, of the U.S.-Taiwan Business Council, introduced Ed Brzytwa, Vice President for International Trade at CTA, during his visit to CIECA.
