CIECA held “The 14th Taiwan-Chile Joint Business Councils Meeting” at Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei on November 22. The meeting concluded successfully. Mr. Rodrigo Yáñez, Secretary General, Society for the Promotion of Manufacturing (SOFOFA) and Mr. Alan García, Executive Director, SOFOFA Hub visited Taiwan for the first time and learned of Taiwan's high-tech industry development by active participation in this conference. The 14th Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Chin Chi-Yuan, Executive Board Director of CIECA, Taiwan and Chairman of Silicon Touch Technology Inc. and Mr. Rodrigo Yáñez, Secretary General, Society for the Promotion of Manufacturing (SOFOFA). During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on how industrial partners can promote bilateral economic cooperation and investment opportunities between Taiwan and Chile. Mr. Bill Keh-Ming Chen, Ambassador on Home Assignment, Department of International Cooperation and Economic Affairs, MOFA, ROC (Taiwan) and Mr. Fernando Schmidt, Director of the Chilean Trade Office in Taipei were invited to deliver remarks respectively. Ms. Liu Yu-Chi, Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chile was also invited to deliver remarks via a pre-recorded video. Nearly 80 representatives from industries, government and academia attended this event. The meeting focused on “Economic Trends and Business Opportunities between Taiwan and Chile,” in which four major topics of mutual concern were discussed: “An Overview of the AI Industry in Taiwan,” “Development of Hydrogen Energy in Taiwan and Taiwan-Chile Cooperation,” “How Taiwan Supports Smart City Development with Cybersecurity,” and “Taiwan Startup Ecosystem and Investment Trends.” Speakers in the meeting included Ms. Huang Shao-Yun, Assistant Trade Representative, Office of Trade Negotiations, Executive Yuan; Mr. Alan García, Executive Director, SOFOFA Hub; Dr. Lin Jo-Chen, CEO of Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership and Deputy Director of Research Division 1, Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER); Mr. Roger Hung, CEO, Hi Power Solution Co., Ltd.; and Mr. Michael Meng-Nan Tsai, Deputy Division Director of Commercialization and Industry Service Center, Industrial Technology Research Institute.
