Ms. Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC Court of Arbitration Visited Taiwan to attend a Series of Activities to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of The Court
Ms. Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration was invited by CIECA and ICC Taipei to visit Taiwan from April 14 to 18, 2024. During her trip in Taiwan, CIECA and ICC Taipei organized the “2024 ICC Taipei Arbitration Day,” “ICC Young Salon-A Dialogue with ICC Court President Ms. Claudia Salomon” and a series of activities to help Taiwanese people understand the ICC arbitration business.
“2024 ICC Taipei Arbitration Day” was co-sponsored by ICC and CIECA at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei on April 16, 2024. This event focused on two main subjects: “Cross-border Investment in Transition-New Developments in Arbitration” and “Effective Conflict Management-What's New.” During the meeting, Ms. Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration delivered a keynote speech. Ms. Lillian Chu, Senior Partner, Tsar & Tsai Law Firm; Dr. Pijan Wu, Senior Counsel, LCS & Partners; Ms. Helena Chen, Attorneys-at-Law, Chen & Chang; and Mr. Shilin Huang, Senior Legal Executive, Rajah & Tann (Singapore) were invited as moderators.
The interlocutors were invited from Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, China, Philippines, Australia, and other important professionals in the arbitration community and related industries. Together with President Claudia Salomon from the United States, the interlocutors formed a “Nine States Alliance” to analyze, based upon their respective expertise and experiences, how companies in various countries can effectively apply ICC arbitration, and enhance Taiwanese companies’ and lawyers’ understanding of ICC arbitration business. More than 100 people from the enterprises and law firms attended this event, adding more excitement to the Arbitration Day event.
The Launch Ceremony and Reception of “ICC Centenary Declaration on Dispute Prevention and Resolution” was immediately held right after the “2024 ICC Taipei Arbitration Day.” It was hosted by Mr. Walter H.C. Chang, Vice Chairman of CIECA. Mr. Chiang Wan-An, Mayor of Taipei City attended this event as the special guest. President Claudia Salomon of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and Ms. Lillian Chu, ICC International Court of Arbitration Executive Supervisor, witnessed the “ICC Centenary Declaration on Dispute Prevention and Resolution” in its Launch Ceremony.
“ICC Young Salon-A Dialogue with ICC Court President Ms. Claudia Salomon” was held at Regent Taipei on April 17. It was co-organized by ICC Chinese Taipei, ICC YAAF and CIECA. This event was hosted by President Claudia Salomon, and the dialogue with students and young lawyers was conducted by Ms. Alison Chang, Representative of ICC YAAF Committee and Partner of Chen & Chang, Attorneys-at-Law. President Salomon shared with young legal professionals and students her experiences in practicing the business of the ICC Court of Arbitration, her promotion and inclusion of the value of diversity in the court, and her own female career development, in the hope of encouraging young lawyers to start out their careers.
The organizers also invited Ms. Laylay Pan, Chief Financial Officer, United Renewable Energy Co., Ltd.; Mr. Jeffrey Li, Associate Partner, Lee and Li, Attorneys-at-Law; Mr. Albert Liao, Associate Partner, Tsar & Tsai Law Firm, other arbitration academicians at home and abroad, lawyers, and well-known Taiwanese industrialists to attend the event.
After the meeting, CIECA Chairman Henry Chih-Shang Kao hosted a dinner for President Claudia Salomon at the Regent Taipei. Taiwan's important arbitration lawyers and Directors of CIECA were invited to that function. Both sides had a lively exchange of views.
During her visit in Taiwan, President Claudia Salomon also met with Mr. Tsai Ching-Hsiang, Minister of Justice and Ms. Dagmar Yu, President of Taiwan Bar Association respectively. They discussed the current status of arbitration in Asia and how to popularize arbitration to small and medium-sized enterprises in Asia. They had lively interactions

On April 18, 2024, Mr. Henry Chih-Shang Kao (left), Chairman of CIECA hosted a dinner at the Regent Taipei to welcome Ms. Claudia Salomon (right), President of ICC International Court of Arbitration. Gifts were given during the dinner.
